What the VA allows at the cemetery
Fort Gibson National Cemetery is one of the most visited places in the area for families of veterans. The VA page for the cemetery lists the flower rules, and they are worth reading before you buy anything. A summary as posted by the VA is below, but always check the cemetery page on va.gov (opens in a new tab) for the current version.
Fresh cut flowers are allowed at any time. Flowers that come with the casket are placed on the grave after the burial. Artificial flowers are allowed from November 10 to April 1. Potted plants are allowed for a window of about 10 days before to 10 days after Easter. Around Memorial Day, all flowers are allowed from the Thursday before through the first Monday in June.
Christmas wreaths and grave blankets are allowed from December 1 to January 20 and should not be secured to the headstone. Permanent plantings, statues, vigil lights, breakable objects, beads and wire are not allowed. When you call, tell the florist the flowers are for the national cemetery so they can design within those rules.
