Muskogee in full bloom

The Azalea Festival is one of Muskogee's best-known traditions. According to Muskogee Parks and Recreation (opens in a new tab), the gardens at Honor Heights Park and the Papilion open daily starting April 1, with azaleas and tulips blooming through April. The city lists a parade, a 5K and a bicycle ride during the month.

The city also notes that butterflies arrive at the butterfly house around Mother's Day weekend. That makes a spring visit with Mom a natural fit with Mother's Day flowers.

If you want to bring the season home, ask the florist about tulips and other spring flowers. Azaleas are usually sold as garden plants, so ask whether the florist carries them. Check the city page for current hours and events before you go.
