A rough guide by season
Most florist flowers come from growers around the country and the world, so you can find roses any month. But seasons still matter. Flowers in season are often fresher, easier to find and better value, and they look right for the time of year.
In spring, think tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, ranunculus and peonies later on. Summer brings sunflowers, zinnias, hydrangeas and lots of garden flowers. Fall is mums, dahlias, sunflowers and warm-toned roses. Winter leans on roses, carnations, amaryllis, evergreens and poinsettias.
Eastern Oklahoma weather is part of the picture too. Hot summers are hard on delicate flowers, and a late freeze can shift spring timing. The Society of American Florists' About Flowers site (opens in a new tab) has more on flower varieties and care. For the real answer this week, ask the florist.
