Lilies

Lily arrangements, and a warning about cats

Lilies are big, fragrant and dramatic. They are also very dangerous to cats. Call and talk to a florist about lilies or a safe swap.

Muskogee Flowers is a free referral line. Your order is taken, arranged and delivered by an independent local florist.

Beautiful, with one big caution

Lilies are a florist favorite. Stargazers, Oriental lilies and white Asiatic lilies make a big impression in sympathy pieces, Easter arrangements and summer bouquets. They open slowly over several days, so the arrangement keeps changing.

The caution is serious. True lilies, including Easter, Stargazer and Asiatic lilies, can cause kidney failure in cats, even from a little pollen or the vase water. If the home has a cat, choose different flowers. The ASPCA lists toxic plants (opens in a new tab), and our lilies and cats guide explains more.

Lily pollen can also stain tablecloths and clothes. Many florists remove the anthers, the orange pollen tips, before delivery. Ask about it on the call.
