Veterans from across eastern Oklahoma are treated at the VA medical center in Muskogee. If someone you love is staying there, flowers can lift their day, but VA units can have their own rules about flowers, plants and balloons, especially in intensive care and some long-term care areas.
The surest step is to ask the patient, the family or the unit staff whether flowers are allowed. The VA Eastern Oklahoma Health Care site (opens in a new tab) lists main phone numbers and visitor information for the system.
When flowers are allowed, small, low arrangements with little scent tend to work best. If they are not, a card now and flowers when the veteran gets home is a good plan. A local florist can help with either.
