The Christmas plant
Poinsettias show up everywhere in December, at church altars, office lobbies and on front porches across Muskogee. They are an easy gift for a neighbor, a teacher or a grandparent, and they last through the season with a little care.
Availability depends on the florist and the week, so ask what colors and pot sizes they have. Many churches order poinsettias in bulk for the altar and let members dedicate them. See church altar flowers.
Poinsettias like bright indirect light and do not like cold drafts. Keep them away from a door that opens to a north wind. They are not as dangerous to pets as people think, but the ASPCA notes they can irritate the mouth and stomach, so keep them out of reach. See the ASPCA plant list (opens in a new tab).
