Commonly listed flowers by year

Lists vary, but a common one goes like this. First anniversary, carnation. Second, lily of the valley. Third, sunflower. Fourth, hydrangea. Fifth, daisy. Tenth, daffodil. Fifteenth, rose. Twentieth, aster. Twenty-fifth, iris. Fiftieth, yellow rose and violet.

These lists are traditions, not rules. Some sources give different flowers for the same year. If your partner has a favorite, that will mean more than the list. Many couples simply repeat the flowers from their wedding bouquet each year.

For milestone years like the 25th or 50th, families often throw a party and want centerpieces too. See anniversary flowers and event flowers.
